Claude's "Computer Use": Overhyped Much?

You've probably heard the buzz about Anthropic's latest release - Claude with computer use capabilities. While everyone's losing their minds about AI taking over the world, let's take a realistic look at what this actually is.

In simple terms, it's a tool powered by Claude 3.5 that can perform actions on your computer. It can interpret screenshot images and use various functions to do what you ask it to. Sounds amazing, right?

Installation

Want to try it yourself? Just follow these steps:

  • Make sure you have Docker installed and running
  • Add your ANTHROPIC_API_KEY
  • Download and run the Docker container
  • Head to localhost and start chatting

Here's the real talk though - while it's definitely interesting, I think it's being overhyped right now. Yes, it has potential, but it's expensive and fails more often than you'd expect. During my testing, the results were... let's say less than mind-blowing.
